Um, because it is a good idea. If it was a "big one" and our house was destroyed I would have to crawl my way out of the basement in bare feet.
Actually, after we were already in the basement the weather guy said "make sure you all, especially the little ones who are more likely to walk around in socks, have shoes in case" you need to flee or something. it was more technical than all that. and professionalish.
There was a tornado like right above our house. Weather sucks.
But Minsky's is awesome pizza!

When and if I/we come visit, we should go to Minsky's. Because the last people I knew in KC were vegetarians, and while they were lovely people and fine hosts and good cooks within their constraints, we didn't go enjoy the meat-based cuisine that your new hometown is famous for.

I'm glad you got shoes because they told you to, rather than because you're that practical. Or that nervous.
