"Hakkai would rather bite his own tongue out and choke on it than betray me."
The words turned to dust in Sanzo's mouth, just like all the other words he's said and hasn't believed. Hakkai would not choose death over betrayal, not for him. Maybe not for anyone. No one was that stupid. And, if by some chance he was, he might as well choke on his own tongue and save Sanzo the trouble of shooting him.
He didn't need worthless, mindless sheep on this journey. He needed someone who would question him, hate him, push him, watch him, challenge him to be more simply by being everything he wasn't. He needed Hakkai, dammit. This Chin Yisou may have known Hakkai longer than Sanzo had, but that didn't give him the right to take him away.
Genjo Sanzo had already staked his claim, and he did not share.
Title: Sake
Word Count: 414
Rating: PG for a few bad words and some implied sex
Summary:
youkai-girl prompted me for Hakkai/Gojyo--sake. This is a look at how Hakkai and Gojyo drink sake, and what they reveal of themselves in the process.
Hakkai and Gojyo drink a lot of sake. This is a statement of fact, along the same lines as saying that the sky is blue, water is wet, bullets hurt and the world would probably be a whole lot better if certain people at certain times had been given a kick in the ass and told to get over themselves already. How they drink it varies.
If Hakkai asks Gojyo to share a drink, they sit at the table across from each other with the sake between them. They drink what is on the table and no more, then go to bed. They sleep till morning and when Hakkai wakes up before Gojyo, as he always does, he gets up to go make breakfast.
If Gojyo suggests they drink some sake, he never means them to do so alone. He drags Hakkai to some bar that he never catches the name of and somehow they manage to pick up no fewer than five women and no more than eight between the door and the bar. After only a few hours and far more sake than anyone else at the table, Hakkai inevitably loses his temper. He drags Gojyo home and proceeds to fuck him through the mattress. They fall asleep so tangled up in each other that, every time, Gojyo swears he'll never be free of Hakkai. When Hakkai wakes in the morning, he leaves the house entirely and isn't seen until lunchtime at the earliest.
When Gojyo drinks sake alone, he never even thinks of Hakkai. He drinks because he wants to, because he likes it or just because he wants to forget. It never works. He finds a woman with brown hair or green eyes or both and flirts with her all night long. He goes home with someone else. When he gets back to the house in the morning, Hakkai makes breakfast without saying a word. He never looks Gojyo in the eye.
When Hakkai drinks sake alone, he does so to the rhythm of loss. He speaks the name of someone he knew or someone he loved who is no longer here. He drinks to every one. He tries to recall the faces of all those he's killed and fails every time. He drinks to them anyway. He saves Kanan for the last moments before dawn and drains the rest of the bottle for her. He's never told Gojyo of those nights. He doesn't ever want to drink for Gojyo.
Title: Mediation
Word Count: 102
Rating: G? Did I actually write a G-rated Sanzo and Gojyo fic? I...I think I did.
Summary:
evildrem prompted me for Sanzo, Gojyo--comparing cigarettes. In this, Sanzo and Gojyo get in an argument and Hakkai settles it.
"Sanzo! You stole my cigarettes, you fraud!"
"Why the hell would I take your disgusting cigarettes, moron?"
"Because--I mean--who cares?! You stole them!"
"Oooh, how will I ever refute such a compelling argument?"
"Why you--"
*BOOM*
Gojyo and Sanzo slowly turned their heads towards Hakkai, whose outstretched hand was still glowing faintly. Then they turned to look at the newly redecorated cliff face just to the other side of them. Sanzo put his gun away. Gojyo carefully released the front of Sanzo's robes. Hakkai smiled.
"Why, thank you both for coming to a civilized end to that unnecessary argument."
Title: Hold Me Back
Word Count: 209
Rating: kind of on the G/PG borderline, I think
Summary:
mysocalledhell prompted me for Hakkai/Sanzo--Hakkai calming Sanzo down after he attempts to murder Goku and Gojyo. And that's pretty much the entire summary.
"Would you two just get out of here already?" Hakkai yells desperately to Gojyo and Goku who are still standing dumbstruck behind him. Sanzo snarls incoherently. Hakkai grabs his right wrist and tries to force the gun down.
"But Hakkai--"
"OUT!"
They leave just in time, as Sanzo jerks his wrist from Hakkai's grip and fires two shots at their retreating backs. Both shots miss. Sanzo stalks out of the room into the hallway which, thankfully, is entirely empty. He returns to the room and grabs Hakkai by the front of his shirt.
"Why did you stop me," he growls, his anger making him sound more like a demon than most of the ones they kill. It isn't really a question.
Hakkai reaches up and wraps a hand around Sanzo's throat, positioning it so that he can feel the angry beat of the priest's pulse under his thumb. He says nothing. Eventually, Sanzo calms down. His gun clatters to the floor and, miraculously, doesn't go off.
"Why did you stop me, Hakkai?" Sanzo whispers and even though it's a question this time, it means something else entirely. Hakkai answers the question Sanzo asks with his eyes and his body, not his words.
"Because you'd fall apart without me."
Title: Going Home
Word Count: 204
Rating: PG for one bad word
Summary:
aprys prompted me for the Sanzo gang--home. Goku starts looking for a way home.
No one liked to say it out loud, but they all thought that they'd been on this damned mission for far too long now. Recently, Goku had even started asking when they were going home. He didn't want to quit, he said, he just wanted... He never managed to articulate what he wanted and the other three were always grateful for that.
When he asked Hakkai, he got a bland, somewhat strained smile and the platitude of choice for the day. Hakkai tried to never just blow Goku off, but it wasn't an easy question to answer. Just wasn't easy, period.
When he asked Gojyo, he got a raucous laugh, a slap on the back and an offer to drink beer and commiserate about that damn monk and his stinkin' journey. Gojyo never really answered, either, but Goku never expected him to, anyway.
He never asked Sanzo. He'd always said that Sanzo was all the home he needed and he didn't ever want his keeper to doubt him on that. Every time the thought of home entered Goku's head, he ended up curled up at the foot of Sanzo's bed and dreaming of golden light and a hand reaching out to him at last.
