I'm currently re-watching The Two Towers and The Return of the King, and it's entirely possible that I'm going to start over and rewatch them again when I'm done because the Rohirrim are just so badass you have to see them twice. Seriously. Even when they're weak and doubting and uncertain, they are some of the most honorable, courageous people in the entire trilogy. I wish I could write LOTR well enough to do a Rohirrim fic. Mad love for the horse lords.
That said, this fic has absolutely nothing to do with them at all. Main fic index, as always, is
here. Title: Listen

Disclaimer PostSummary: When Charlie wants to tell Don something important, he corners Don in his office and talks about math.
Notes: Written after watching the scene between Don and Charlie in Arrow of Time. I forget what season and episode number. You don't necessarily have to have seen the episode to get the fic, though.
When Charlie wants to tell Don something important, he corners Don in his office and talks about math. If it’s FBI-important, he ropes the rest of Don’s team in there with him. If it’s Charlie-and-Don-important, he makes sure it’s just the two of them.
And he talks. Everything is math, and the fact that he’s said that a ridiculous number of times by now does not make it untrue. Quite the opposite, in fact. So no matter what he has to say, the math will help him say it, will get him in the door.
And Don listens. He’s gotten Don well trained by now; Charlie in his office talking about math is a thing to be listened to, so far as Don is concerned. He pays attention. He’s always paid attention, but that’s another thing entirely. The past is of limited help in this case. Charlie needs the present, needs the future-needs Don in the future-to get this right.
The math builds the frame. Charlie fills it in, makes it visible and useable. Don takes what Charlie gives him and does the right thing, or the closest approximation that he can manage. That’s the way it is between them and that’s the way they will continue. Anything else is unacceptable.
