Hypocrites!!

Okay, I'm not a Christian, so maybe I'm missing something here, but after all the uproar about Dr Jeffery John, who had to step down from his nomination as the Bishop of Reading (and may face the same with regard to his new post), this newest appointment seems rather hypocritical to me:

Not really, i belive the Church of England was setup exclusivly so that Henry VIII could have a divorce (or 6). So to me at least it makes perfect sence that they appoint a Bishop who has had a divorce, as he is just upholding the reason that the C of E was setup in the first place.

That's a very valid point (though he only divorced twice), though I still think that they're being hypocritical.

Actually the church of england was dissolved (at least in terms of absolute structure, if not name) by Mary after henry's death, who re-established the Pope as the head of the church (So if you were rich/influential enough, you could override any royal or parliamentary decision by appealing to the pope, who could ask god, nicely on your behalf ( ... )

If the Queen is head of the Church of England and she has allowed divorce in her family we can only assume that the reason for it's existance is still valid.

The queen herself is above the law in England she can do litrally as she pleases (all prosecutions for the state are brought in her name). There was a bit about it fairly recently when Diana's butler was accused of nicking some of her stuff, the case collapsed when the queen said she knew about it. There was talk at the time about changing things so that the Queen was no longer head of state, but as the only alternative was to make Tony Blair above the law we all thought better of it.
