Is It a Sign of the Times or Is This Just a Really Bad Year?

I have had three - THREE - violent episodes in my classroom this year, or at least closely related to my clasroom. I work in Special Education at a middle school and this has not happened to me in ten years of teaching.

i think it`s both. too much freedom and too much violence.

also, what do i know? i don`t have kids. and most of the the time i am thank god for it!

Document, document every incident. That way they can't hide it under the rug if something happens that they could have prevented.

I hope nothing serious happens but incidents like what you are describing are reported everywhere lately. I think the new indulgent parenting style is to blame too. Some of my acquaintances who are teachers complain about not being able to rein violent behaviour in due to a lack of support from parents and the school's administration. They said everyone is too bust being "politically correct" than on doing the right thing.
