Should I go now? If you'd like.

Right, so first of all I'm posting this from my iPod and it's exciting. Also... I saw the first episode of Dollhouse and it's pretty awesome so far. Battlestar is kind of on crack but I'm so hooked it's not even funny. Lost is frustrating me and heroes has potential to be awesome again.

Finally, I've decided to stop posting my twitter posts on ( Read more... )

I actually set it up so Twitter is posted to a filter that I can take folks off of... works well.

Yeah, I understand the desire to share with LJ-land, but the two are substantively different mediums. Twitter posts are so timely, they've usually 'expired', or at least gone past their 'relevant by' date by the time they get into LJ. Likewise, if I had a really good rant, or a long topic, or a question where I wanted as much feedback as practical, I wouldn't post it to twitter.

I've found that the twitter feeds can be useful for keeping track of certain people. I have a few friends where the twitter feed is really the best way to find out what's going on. One is an internet friend with a broken computer and no money to fix it, another is so busy that I'm surprised he even has time to do the texting, etc. If it's the only information I can get, I'll take it.

I get annoyed when people who update regularly also have their twitter feeds up, though. I don't need to see it! I've got their entries!

So follow their twitter feed. You don't need an account to do that. You don't even need to go to their twitter page, because you can get it as an RSS feed. Which you can subscribe to with LJ if you really have no other feed reader. Then you can follow their tweeting, much closer to real time, and it need not clutter up everyone's friend's page.

And there are people I follow on twitter who do post regularly, but again, they are different mediums, used to different ends. It doesn't make as much sense to post 'getting a haircut' or 'grabbing lunch in 5 minutes, want to join me?' on livejournal.

I try to minimize my use of RSS feeds. I never remember to check readers, and I've yet to follow a feed on LJ that didn't get fucked up several times. Seriously, if I wanted to follow someone's tweeting closer to realtime, I'd get a twitter account. But I don't care about that. Would I prefer that people post entries instead? Yes. But if 90% of someone's posts are LoudTwitter ships that are (hopefully) behind a cut, that's only one post a day. For most of my friends-of-few-entries that post actually includes information that I want. (Last week there was a "my sister is in the hospital" tweet in the post.) Some of my friends post entries six times a day. I've been known to do it myself on occasion. Which one is really clutter ( ... )

I would subscribe to your twitter feed if I actually had or wanted a twitter account. But I don't, because it would be a bad idea. You're going to have to update more often or I will go back to having no clue what you're doing.

The phone, email, and IM: obviously too much effort.
