I think a few people enjoyed my previous post of this nature, when I presented an audience recording of the complete performance of "Billy the Mountain" from the 1971 UCLA concert that produced Just Another Band From L.A. I mean, there were only two comments, but I ( Read more... )

the other song, and i had to listen twice to make it out, is She's Not There by The Zombies, right?

do i get a prize or something?
how about uploading a version of The Blue Light with FZ localizing the lyrics to make them relevant to where they were playing?

thanks again for this!

ding! "She's Not There" it is, my friend.

and oooh, a request! "The Blue Light" it shall be. Two performances of it immediately sprang to mind as soon as you mentioned it. I'll try to get them up soon. There are a lot of shows I haven't listened to yet so, who knows, maybe another "Blue Light" or two will rear it's funny little head in the future.

Glad you enjoyed this one and thanks for commenting!

btw imo, the initial quote of and then full-on burst into "She's Not There" is one of the things that makes this solo an ass-kicker and one of my favorites. The first time I heard it, I didn't quite catch what FZ was quoting there, but then the whole band jumps right on it and tears into it (listen to Tommy Mars' organ in particular)... it made me laugh out loud, and still puts a smile on my face.

FZ actually quoted "She's Not There" many times during the two 1980 tours (it happens during like 5 or 6 songs in the Paris 1980 concert/video alone), so it's not *that* unique of an event in the larger sense, but in this solo was the first time I heard it, so it holds That Shall-We-Say Special Place in My Heart.
