*hugs* You have the strength in you. its so hard to find sometimes. and while it often seems easier to throw choices and hope to the wind and wish and pray some invisible deity will make things better,IMO it will only lead to disappointment. its so hard to find your own strength sometimes but it is there. at the end of the day if you believe, and it brings you comfort and hope then believe. but if you're struggling with trying to appease or grasp someone or something you cant, it might be best to let it go. I think some people can have a healthy relationship with "god" and some people just cant. Its just not for everyone. Good luck with your mother, keep your head up and remember to take care of yourself too. it sounds like your mother is going through a lot, and its ok for that to take a toll on you too.
