Amazing!
The SPACE Channel - Sci-Fi Channel's equivalent in Canada - is airing the full TWO HOUR version of the Dresden Files' original pilot episode: Storm Front! The episode first aired last night, Saturday January 5th with an encore airing tonight at 6:00 pm.
Canada isn't the only country to get the full 2 hour pilot - New Zealand also got the 2hr Pilot on
PRIME. So. Why hasn't the Sci-Fi Channel aired the full 2 hour pilot here in the U.S??!
Storm Front was originally written and produced as a 2 hour movie, but for some reason Sci-Fi executives decided to turn the Dresden Files from a 2 hour movie to a 12 episode series - a smart move, though 22 episodes would have been a brilliant move. However, this change - while excellent since we viewers would now get 12 hours of Harry and Bob instead of just 2 - unfortunately resulted in Sci-Fi having the movie cut down, chopped up, remixed & made one of the 12 episodes they had commissioned as Season 1 of the Dresden Files.
The result: The Sci-Fi Channel aired Storm Front, not as pilot Episode 1 as one would think, but as Episode 8. (Don't try to follow that convoluted reasoning. It'll just hurt your brain...)
Since the end of Season 1, Lionsgate released the season on DVD. No 2 hour Pilot.
So, we loyal viewers here in the U.S have yet to see the original version of Storm Front. Though the pilot and chopped version of Storm Front doesn't contain Terrence Mann as Bob - a brilliant addition that came during the prep for the balance of the series episodes, thank goodness - I still want to see it. Do you?
If you want to see the full 2 hour Storm Front, send a message to Sci-Fi Channel at
feedback@scifi.com and tell them to air the 2 hour version of Storm Front!! There are over 8,700 signatures on the
Petition (if you haven't signed it, please do!) to renew the Dresden Files. If ALL of us send an e-mail, it would surely send a strong message! So, write Sci-Fi about the 2 hour pilot and then join us in the push for the
1 year Anniversary of the Dresden Files and convince the Execs at Sci-Fi to renew this excellent series for Season 2!!
