> And thinking about it, the idea that people and Pokemon were two unique and sentient races, only Pokemon have a weakness where they can be caught with Pokeballs and thus became deemed an "inferior" race gets into some creepy territory. D: This has gotten me thinking. A lot. Expect a ridiculously huge essay when it's had a chance to brew, but in the meantime I'll just say that there are some issues in this setting that I've noticed out of the corner of my eye for a while now, and the myth quoted above - combined with your comment - seems to have finally kicked it into focus.
(For the record, this doesn't mean I'm leaving the fandom or calling all trainers evil or anything. It's more subtle than that.)
The way I see it, our world began when the spirit within people was born. When that spirit came to be, there followed awareness about the world. Within the newborn spirit, time and space were intertwined as one. People and Pokémon, too, were but the same presence. As I understand it, people and Pokémon shared the spirit and awareness. They should have understood and accepted each other then. Because they shared the same spirit, people and Pokémon intermingled. People took the place of Pokémon, and the opposite also held true. That interpretation could give us an idea about how our world came to be. A Pokémon is said to have shaped this world. Could that Pokémon be the physical form of the original spirit? Hmm... The spirit came to be, and from it, time and space were born... That seems to point to legendary Dialga, the Pokémon of time, and Palkia, the Pokémon of space... And they lead back to Arceus, the Pokémon that made them arise.

I think it was implied that Aaron was the one who helped Lucario refine and use his Aura powers, so it's possible that the Aura was human ability everyone could use, but we just forgot how over time. :O
That could work actually, just that Pokemon auras are fundamentally different from human auras, thus why Pokeballs only work on them. As the split grew, the ability for people to communicate like Lucario and Aaron got more and more infrequent...
And man, who knows. :O What if Silph Co had a pro-human agenda that they pushed through with Pokeballs and the whole training system? And it's been going on so long no one really questions it anymore?

Man, the more I think about it, the more I think your right about the possibility of at least a few people of high ranking in Silph Co being Pro Human

:O
Man I think you're on to something. The Master Ball IS really sinister when you think about it this way, and creating Porygon isn't really too far apart from creating Mewtwo. :O God, how scary!

I will see what I can do :)
Bit busy atm, but in a few weeks I should have the time to start working on this fic idea...
So far I'm thinking about splitting the whole thing up into about 3-4 parts/chapters, so its going to be a fair amount of work, IDK...
Already got some cool ideas for characters, factions and how its going to play out though :D Don't get your hopes up :P it might be epic, might be fail :O

I am looking forward to this as well, because I was thinking along the same lines! I mean, maybe psychic people are throwbacks to when people were more Pokemon-like?
I've always liked Porygon. It's so cute and the concept - a data/computer Pokemon - is fascinating. I was a little sad when I found out that its personality was capslock-emotionless-robot. =< Of course, Porygon2 was better, and PorygonZ was more intriguing. I just like the concept of unusal AIs [.hack nerd]
Further exploits from the Silph Co.: PokeFlute. Just. Forcibly waking a Pokemon up gives me more creepy controlling vibes. And if you use it on a Snorlax, isn't that like disrupting a bear during hiberation? D=
(just for the record, the above anon is not me but i find his ideas intriguing)eco_monoJune 9 2009, 23:35:01 UTC
Nah, the Pokéflute wasn't a Silph invention... you get that from Mr. Fuji after rescuing him from Rocket thugs, and that guy's about as pro-Pokémon as you can get.

Huh. When I was thinking this stuff out, I always just assumed that Silph was expanding technology in your standard Sci Fi reach-exceeds-grasp sort of way, releasing products without realizing how much they would change society - y'know, like TV in the 40s and 50s. But I've never been one to pass up a good conspiracy theory, and certainly the stuff about Master Balls is an interesting point. Actually, come to think of it, they've had that technology for at least three years now... so why are they only giving it out to the Professors and the lottery?
Huh. There's more here than I thought at first. Let us know when that fic gets started, eh?
