I've got mixed feelings about The Cure. Robert Smith does have a rather... interesting vocal range, I'll freely admit, but there are some of their songs I do enjoy. Love Cats just happens to push buttons, and altho they disown having anything to do with it, I love Burn from The Crow soundtrack. There was a pretty good 'Greatest Hits' collection that puts together a few of their listenable numbers.
The Beatles on the other hand... I got a copy of their 'Number 1s' and discovered I could probably listen to 1/4 - 1/3 of them before I have to turn them off because they grate on my nerves in all the wrong ways. I've never attempted their 'Number 2s'.
I'll agree to that. I'm not a Beatles fan but I have discovered I don't hate their music. There are some songs I can get into but like you it's just a handful and then I'd rather not deal with them. Just earlier in my life I had a bizarre hate for them. I went through a "popular means terrible" phase when I was a kid.
One band I'd add to your list is the B52s tho... I picked up their 'greatest hits' compilation, and promptly sold it a week later once I discovered there were two good songs on it and the rest were just painfully bad.
