Newspaper just not relevant

A little while ago I saw the following on Twitter:

How many of you bought a newspaper today?....just what I thought. Thanks. Now my kids don't get Christmas.

I'd be hard pressed to tell you the last time I bought a newspaper. These days even if there is a free one kicking around in a coffee shop I can't be bothered. Why flip through page after ( Read more... )

I would have responded with something snarky like
"You don't think people are buying enough papers- and they aren't. Maybe *you* shoudn't have based your Christmas budget on money you didn't expect to come in."

Paying for xmas with a paper route seems like poor planning. I don't know ANYONE that subscribes to a newspaper anymore. My Mom buys the Sun from the box some sundays for the TV guide.. because she's archaic that way.

In this particular case, the guy in question works for the paper directly as an employee ;)

I know that I stopped reading the newspaper regularly about 8 years ago. And, you're right: sometimes I appreciate finding one in a coffee shop, but I don't get vexed should there not be one there to read.

Which is sad. There are ofttimes some damned fine articles. But, the cost with the added hassle of having to wade through a bunch of shite and/or adds just makes the whole thing seem a tad silly. Certainly not a privilege I want to actually pay for.

'Ceptin' when the paper has an article about me, of course...

Did he remember to pick up a Double Double this morning? No?! Then that's MY PERSONAL car payment that he's screwing over because HE failed to spend his money on a daily minor luxury. I'll just have to tell my loan officer that there'll be NO PAYMENT this month because SOMEONE decided to brew at home!

How the fuck is it anyone else's problem that his industry is not supporting him? Get layed off: Go on EI until you find another job. THAT's how I support you. By paying you 60% of your wage while you look for work. Not by buying a paper I won't read to assuage my guilt that Tiny Tim won't get Lego Star Wars for the DSi this Christmas.
