A homeless romance

It's an unfortunate reality in any urban center that there are homeless. People end up homeless for a wide variety of reasons... loss of employment, underemployment, mental illness, family breakdown. And the amount of thought the average citizen gives 'the homeless' is negligible. Aside from the occasional donation to a food drive or some over ( Read more... )

What the hell. As if this shit happens. :O

I'm worried that our Olympic cameras are going to stick around too and I'm sure the same type of thing will be happening here in the future.

Jesus fuck. I am horrified and angry. You're dead right; it is likely these people would have been summarily arrested and with little recourse in terms of fighting what is unreasonable harassment.

I would love to find out what the hell is going on with a camera on that bridge, and a loudspeaker with some boxmunch telling people that they can't do the reasonable, legal thing they're doing....

Man. I so wanna put a boot up Big Brother's ass...

I would recommend, as you were witness to this event, visiting your local MLA, in person and in writing. You(and those homeless persons) have a voice that they, the MLA's as elected officials, do have to pay attention to. Also, demand that they provide you answers to how this invasion will be addressed and corrected...if at all.

I also think you should forward this post in an email to any and all media that will listen.

woah... when did Calgary become Britain? that's insane!

That's awful that you're not allowed to make out on bridges anymore (if you're a suspect group; native, homeless, teenage too perhaps). What is the point of having lovely picturesque places to walk with a lover unless you can kiss them under the stars/sunset/moon? Making out in public is an inalienable right. Also, loving makes for less angry people. I bet if they prohibit kissing in public, there will be an increase in "angry" crimes, like violence and vandalism.
