Fairy Tales and Consent

There is a book that lives in a waiting room that the kids and I frequent every week. It is a Disney book about a princess, so of course R wants me to read it to her every week -- Every. Single. Have you seen Once Upon A Time at all? It's on Netflix, and while it's definitely another one of those "pre-screen before exposing children" situations, you might like at least the first season take on Snow White (I haven't watched much further and can't comment).

I haven't seen the movie in a long time, but this telling reminds me more of the brother's grimm version, which I also haven't read in quite a while.

Having animals talk in a world that otherwise doesn't acknowledge that change can be weird. Beatrix Potter is hard for me to read for this reason. Farmer McGregor traps and otherwise treats the rabbits like normal rabbits (I think Peter's dad ends up in his stew pot) but the rabbits not only talk but wear clothes and are otherwise completely human.
