Sep 13,1939 GAIN MADE IN WEST
The French are approaching the Saar River, the Germans may be forced to abandon the town of Saarbrueken, and there is hope that the French may soon be able to attack the Westwall itself, a formidable German fortification. Moreover, the British and French are working together so well that the article puts forward the idea that it is more properly referred to as an Anglo-French army.
Sep 13,1939 The Developments in Europe
Germany has almost completed its ring around Warsaw and is marching on Lwow, the Ukrainian capital. The Polish are still fighting in Lodz and are fueled mostly by hatred, which is inspiring women to join the ranks of snipers. The French are threatening Saarbrueken, consolidating previous gains, and perfecting their liaison with the British thanks to Prime Minister Chamberlain's flight across the Channel. Unknown numbers of British troops have been conveyed across the Channel under cover of darkness with "extraordinary precautions," necessitated by continued German submarine activity. German engineers are arriving in Moscow, presumably to assist in reorganizing their industry for war; this is presumed to be evidence of closer German-Soviet ties. Japan seems to be moving to make peace with Russia.

Sep 13,1939 NAZI AIR DEFENSES CALLED 'APPALLING'
The British are very pleased to have been able to drop leaflets in Germany so easily, as it means that they have probed German ground defenses against air attack (search lights, antiaircraft fire, etc.) and that those defenses have been found to be quite weak.

Sep 13,1939 POLES' RESISTANCE IS HELD STIFFENING
A detailed discussion of Polish defensive strategy. The thought is that the Poles have deliberately been maintaining an orderly retreat in order to pull back to a strong defensive position in more difficult terrain -- there are three rivers that come together in this area, plus marshy terrain and a fort originally built by the Russians and recently reinforced with concrete on its many-feet-thick walls. It is noted, however, that the Germans are still making good progress through this area thanks to their advanced technology, plus that bombing of bridges and such on the border with Romania carries a great risk of impeding the flow of refugees there.

Sep 13,1939 Poles Erect Bulwark of Hatred To Resist German Juggernaut
Although outclassed in the military field, the Poles are falling back on that factor which helped them to survive a century and a half of subjugation and partition, namely, their intense national consciousness and capacity for hating their conquerors. Losing the war at the front, they are carrying on a war behind the front and out of the blackened ruins of their towns and villages are arising the hatreds of the next hundred years. That is evident to anybody able to penetrate into that part of Poland over which the war has blown its scorching breath.

Sep 13,1939 ENVOY DENIES REICH SEEKS WORLD RULE
A man associated with the German Embassy has announced that Germany is not seeking to rule the world, that its attack on Poland is not any sort of pretext for establishing dominance in Europe, and that a "reasonable adjustment" of the controversy with Poland would have been possible had it not been for "England's interference and her anti-German encirclement policy." More propaganda!
