Put simply, at least in the LDS (Mormon) faith, a priesthood holder is someone who has been ordained and has the authority to act for God and to use his power. Ultimately, we believe that that same power is the power he created the universe with.
No, I cannot create universes. :) But I can give blessings, baptize, and perform other ordinances as others need them.
More specifically, and maybe more information than you need, as an Elder, I have the authority to perform specific ordinances. There are others I do not have the authority to do. And for the ordinances I do have authority to use, some of them can only be performed when someone else who holds the keys for that ordinance approves it. In other words, though I can baptize people, I have to have a Bishop's permission to do so.
That does help, though I'm a little dissapointed you can't work on a new universe, but I'll accept it.
I am very curious about other religions and faiths, but I like to hear about them firsthand, I feel like definitions we get from the media or internet don't really give a clear picture.
