Diplomacy

My parents taught me huge amounts about politics and diplomacy. Dad is a recognized expert on Democracy and East African Governments, and the immediacy of distant world events have been part of my consciousness for as long as I have had consciousness, but the most important lessons happened by listening and watching them interact with the world ( Read more... )

"A Beautiful Mind" was very useful in obtaining a good introduction to game theory. If you need good recommendations for other reads on game theory, I can ask my husband, who has his PhD in Economics.

I was also thinking about anger in response to your post. Although I think anger is empowering in that it can enable people to overcome fear, I've discovered, in my own experiences and from my Zen and martial arts training, that articulating thoughts while angry is unwise. Although I can also be frighteningly articulate while angry, I don't like the damage it can cause.

Which means that I try as hard as I can to never let myself get angry, so that I can remain calm and logical during particularly sticky exchanges.
