The year that was 2012

Dec 30, 2012 23:21

The year in which I found two new fandoms and wrote nearly 100k of fic.
Cabin Pressure: 48k of posted fic
Sherlock: 31k of fic
Star Trek: 14k of fic

The year in which I stared seriously using AO3, finally got over 100 kudos on a fic, and watched LJ and commenting culture slowly decline.

For 2013, role on new canon for both Star Trek and Cabin

Congrats, that must be a serious case of carpal tunnel syndrome you're working on there. :)

LJ declining...I keep staying here out of habit and because of a handful of people, but yeah, it's fading. The ST trailers and interviews have revived ontd_startrek a bit, but it nearly sputtered out for awhile. Dreamwidth is worse.

Oddly enough, I don't feel as if I wrote a lot this year, perhaps because I didn't do a Big Bang.
It is sad to see LJ fade, especially as there is yet to be a good alternative IMO, I just don't get Tumblr as a way to showcase fic. So I'll just stick around here and see what transpires.

Sounds like a lot to me...I haven't written any fic in ages.

People post fic on Tumblr? That's pretty odd as it's such a photo/graphics site. It'd make more sense to post links to fic on Pinterest somehow (not that anybody does that).
Well, the Internet's pretty fluid, so when one thing dies off another will turn up. LJ still has a little life in it - it's just the occasional DoS attacks here that worry me.

Good for you - 100k is about 20k better than I managed, and mine was almost all ST. Like you I've gone to AO3, but I still don't really like it...I suspect a few of us will still be haunting LJ long into the future. And I suspect that the new ST film will revive LJ for a while. The one thing I really don't get is people posting fic on Tumblr, that's just stupid...

I did quite well on liberating half-written fic too, although some still lurks on the hard-drive. I'll certainly keep haunting LJ, mostly because - as you say - there is nowhere else to go that makes any sense. It will be interesting to see how the new Trek fandom plays out.
