wonderful!

A much preferable ending to STID than Abrams' attempt. I really do love the idea of them actually having five years under Pike's command.

And, if there ends up being a bit of *cough* informal *cough* Captain/CMO/First Officer time in their personal quarters, well that's all good for morale, right?

Oh I do wish they'd had a tour under Pike's command. I suspect my post STID writing will be almost entirely around that idea. I was mostly unmoved by Khan and their whole convoluted plot.

I really like McCoy's increasingly desperate attempts to justify all the pets and then Pike finding the tribble with its own box and red cushion.

Thanks! It was the idea of the list of pets that set off the story in first place.

Delightful! I intend to use this as my head canon.

I love that Porthos showed up.

:) All of them onboard under Captain Pike is definitely my head canon from now on.

Oh this is so good...I have visions of a whole series of post-Khan adventures for this particular version of the Enterprise's command crew...with McCoy being very creative in his ways of keeping the captain compliant and happy...

And you wouldn't have modeled that cat from life would you ;)

Yes, well, the cat might have a live counterpart. And all of them on board is my prefered outcome for the whole STID thing.

This was a fun story that I hope leads to a fun little romp between Pike and McCoy (even if it's offscreen).

You may want to check the sexes of the pets: I think the cat and the Tribble switch from female to male (and vice versa) over the course of the story.

Thanks, Trouble and Montoya did indeed switch sexes halfway through writing for reasons. I think I've cleaned it up now.
