Struts Upgrade - Validation-rules.xml - Solution

At the company where I work, we are upgrading our WebSphere servers from version 5 to 6. In the process, we are also updating our Java applications. Part of the application upgrades involve converting from Struts 1.1 to 1.2.8.

I have spent two days puzzled by the problem this caused with form bean validation. I was getting errors like this:

Actually, yeah! It does help me! We're upgrading to WAS 6.x from 5.0.1.1 next month!

At first, I actually thought this was a post from LJ-maintennance group talking about some sort of update or a fixed problem in LJ.

Mixing business with pleasure ... sorry for the confusion. :-) When I cannot find a solution to a technical problem and end up coming up with one on my own, I'll post it in hopes of helping someone else who has the same issue.
