Thirty First Night

I think this place is playing a cruel joke on me...The Red Stone of Asia. How utterly useless without the Stone Mask. Hmph...At least these books can calm my irritation. Something new to read while I idle in this place is a welcome change.

Okay, that's good. I thought you might have been crazy for a second there.

What kind of books?

Some old literature...mainly Victorian.

Think you'll be up for lending them, when you're finished?

Hmm...Perhaps. I have a few now I've read many times over. Their pages are nearly crumbling, though; I found them in this place when I first arrived.

Is it pretty?

Yes. It's a rather lovely red gem on a gold chain.

Can I have it? If you don't want it...

I was planning on giving it to you, anyway. It would be beautiful on you.

There are books amongst the falling objects?

Apparently so. I received a large number of them.

I would be lucky if I weren't also stuck here.

The Red Stone of Asia, sir?

Yes, Ice. It perfects what the Stone Mask can do...It created a perfect being known as "Kars". Have I told you of the Pillar Men?

You have not, sir.

They were four ancient beings...vampires, even, that lay dormant within a pillar in Mexico. In 1938, they rose out of the pillar. Santana was the weakest and was subject to tests done by the Nazis; then ACDC, Wham, and Kars all rose.

The rest of the story isn't terribly important...Joseph Joestar's mother had the Red Stone of Asia. It was eventually stolen and made it into Kars's hands. When placed in the Stone Mask that he held and then wore, it allowed him to become the perfect being. He could transform his body at will and was almost unstoppable...A sheer fluke on the part of Joseph launched Kars into space.
