There has been significant interest in a visit to Centre Parcs, and while I initially dismissed this as being too expensive it may be feasible if we plan it right.
Centre Parcs would offer a nice break somewhere that's nice to stay with very peaceful surroundings and plenty to explore, but depends if people can afford the time and days off. My preference is for the Sherwood Forest site due to its more central location, if you feel strongly otherwise let me know.
The accommodation I would plan on renting would be the 8-person villas, of the entry-level 'comfort' grade. These are the largest and best value option, and would give us the most socialising space. The features included in this grade of accommodation can be found
here, along with the more expensive alternatives. The accommodation price includes access to the awesome Subtropical Swimming Paradise.
However, the price doesn't include any activities or bike here. Cycle hire is pretty much compulsory unless you bring your own bike, and costs from £24. Cars are not allowed on site outside the 'moving in' periods and the site is pretty big. A rough guide for activity prices can be found
here.
The price of the villas depends on the length of stay. Taking a week mid-September gave me the following prices:
a) 3-night weekend = £700 = £87.50 each = £29.17 per night
b) 4-night mid-week = £360 = £45 each = £11.25 per night
c) 6-night full-week = £1018 = £127.25 each = £21.21 per night
Obviously I would prefer to take option 'b', seeing as its the best value and allows enough time to have a decent break. However, I am aware that many people may have difficulty getting the time off and thus prefer to take option 'a' despite the extra cost for less time. You may feel that option 'a' is too expensive for a 'cheap holiday'. Or maybe you think Centre Parcs is not the right choice. Either way, let me know in the comments so I can take your opinions into account.
