Dear World,

If you are going to say that a cover song was originally by a certain artist, please do that, and not by the most famous other cover version.

Ram Jam did NOT do the original of Black Betty.
Sinead O'Connor did NOT do the original of Nothing Compares 2 U.
Soft Cell did NOT do the original of Tainted Love.

Thanks. Grumble grumble.

I knew there was another common one I forgot! Also it scares me that it has been 19 years since I saw Tears For Fears live >.>

Only a tiny bit tangent-y but I had a 20 minute debate turned argument with someone who swore that NIN covered Hurt by Johnny Cash.

Not the same as yours but at least it's on the same line as "OMFG get your covers straight!!!"

Exactly. One night at work a couple of years ago I'd played Aerosmith's Dream On. This dude came up to me and said "I can't believe someone has covered Eminem already".

The worst thing was, he was completely serious. I didn't have a debate with him or anything, I was too stunned. I just laughed and walked off.

We all KNOW that Marilyn Manson did the original of Tainted Love!

And that Scissor Sisters did the original of Comfortably Numb.

And Whitney Houston did the original of I Will Always Love You.

And Bette Midler did the original of Wind Beneath My Wings.

Kids today, eh? :P

The list is endless! Much like the classics written and performed by the Australian legend Rolf Harris, like Stairway To Heaven.
