I was at a video rental place (yes, I'm old-fashioned that way), in what is considered one of the safer parts of the actual city, the gayborhood. The gaybourhood is awesome, simply awesome. I love all the people, and there was a pretty big OutFest today spanning several blocks. The overarching theme was Gay Pride, but it was basically just another

That's absolutely terrifying, and I'm sorry you had to see it. How are you doing, having seen that?

Well, they are fabulous. But to me, living in this kind of a diverse neighborhood is awesome.
I'm fine, I was though a little shaken up, but if this progression of crime in my life continues, I might just witness a murder by the end of medical school.

I never thought twice about carrying tens of thousands of yen or hundreds of euro. Well, I did secure my wallet in places like London and Rome, but the worst thing that would have happened there would have been a pickpocket. I never worry about that stuff in Germany. Why is it that the richest nation on earth has more criminals per capita than any other industrialized country?

Joel, I hate to tetll you, but perhaps carrying hundreds of Euros with you, in any place on Earth is not the brightest idea. It may not have happened yet, but once the big bad criminals take away your money, you'll hate life even more, if that's possible.

it would definitely not be a good thing for me to live in philly. i have a terrible lack of fear of my surroundings. i would certainly die.
