I only know how to do the header image. Couldn't find anything on putting an image on the side...

I'm not sure if you can put a header on if you don't have a paid account. What you could probably do is make a background that has an image on the side and use that as changing backgrounds is available to free accounts, too...

I've just realised how cheap the paid accounts actually are so I might treat myself, was kind of thinking of expanding beyond my WoW pics anyway!

Looks nice! The thing I don't like with LJ is that they're not using html but.... something else. I'm using one of those help layer styles...

Give me some time and I might be able to figure it out!

Cool, thank you - am still thinking of getting a paid account (which I think you need to be able to use the layers) - have found lots of cool new user pics!!

I'm pretty sure I had a picture on top before I got a paid account, but I can be wrong... back then I was using s1, so it's not the same I guess.

Which style are you using right now? Boxer, etc?

No it's flexible squares. I think I can put a picture behind the 'journal' layer - and I can put that on the top but the 'journal' kind of gets in the way!
