Hair

Hair isn't only something that sits on top of my head. It's a representation of who I am. Bold, beautiful, and authentic. We don't always feel bold and beautiful, but authentic? Yes. I didn't wear my hair natural for a long time. A looooooooonggg time. It wasn't until high school that I worked up the courage to let my hair breathe. No braids, no ( Read more... )

I think your natural hair is beautiful and you are right to embrace it...every frizzy, kinky, natural strand of it.

I cut my hair real short once....and everyone was shocked. I mean...why? It's just hair. It grows back. It was nice to not have to spend so much time styling, straightening...and all that. My natural hair is curly..hard to tame sometimes.

Thank you Faith. On days when I can't control it, I remind myself I'm lucky to have hair at all & should be thankful for it!

People can get so hung up on someone elses hair. I don't get it either! Curly hair is a chore and I've contemplated cutting it short too. I'm not ready for that kind of attention!

When I'm in "the performer" I go through straightening and extensions. When I'm just me...it's all natural!

I saw a Tweet long ago that said something along the lines of one person saying, "Your hair looks great today! Why don't you do that style more often?" and the other person (who has curly hair) monologues, It's impossible to make your curls look the same though?? Relatable.

I'm all for your natural hair. I think it looks great. I'm glad you're comfortable doing what you want to do instead of doing something to fit in. Negative attention sucks, but so does being a sheep in a herd.

Real talk. The only way my hair would look the same two days in a row is if I never went to bed!

Thank you. I love sheep but am happier not being one. 😊

OMG Z, fuck the haters. I think you're beautiful with your natural hair and I don't even think it would be you without it. There should NEVER be a time or a place where someone is made to feel bad because their hair isn't what someone else thinks it should be. We should all be ourselves, and if that means sporting your natural hair? Well, you do you because it's YOU and you should always be true to yourself.

So are you in NYC this week? What do you say to meeting for lunch? Too bad my hair's short right now. If I had my full head of curls you bet your ass I'd let them be wild and free just to make my point. ❤️

Here here. I don't know what was going on in the 90s - 00s that made people feel contempt towards curly hair, but most of the girls & boys I knew did everything in their power to hide their natural hair. Kids were using clothes irons to rid themselves of curls! My dumbass tried it & fried off a chunk of hair. It worked for my friends with fine hair so I thought it'd work for me too. I would have been happier living life my way instead of their way, but it's never too late to change things around, so here I am with my big hair. 😊

I'm free to do lunch this week! Your short curls will do fine & I can't wait to see them/you!😄

Who knows. You could ask yourself that same question about what's going on in the world in general I guess, I mean when did the world just turn so nasty? Was it always this way and social media really brought it to the forefront? I can't say that I ever tried to iron my curls out, but I did get short haircuts to try to keep it tame. Until I ended up on Broadway anyway, then it became the real deal. Well I'm glad you said to hell with that shit, I really am. I love the natural you!! ❤️

Awesome, well then let's plan it for Friday then. I'll tell Lin, you pick the place this time. sound good? I can't wait to see you and give you a huge hug!!

That's a whole box of worms you're trying to open! Your question is probably hypothetical, but if it's not, read on! My theory is the world has always had its nasty people doing nasty things. The Tuskegee experiment, Unit 731, Gandhi abusing his wife..... I mean, those are the BIG assholes. If those things were going on, I bet all I got that the petty shit was widespread too. Not all of it was documented like it is now where someone can't even have a breakdown at McDonald's without the whole world finding out. Long story short, social media is bringing the nasty to the forefront. It's good in the way that it's showing us that our people need help & this will change life for the better once we realize we are the change. We can't rely on one group of people to make a difference. It takes the effort of everyone with a good head on their shoulders. This is my long winded way of saying if you see someone harassing someone else about something like hair, stand up for the person taking the heat. Take the offender to school ( ... )

I love your hair so much! I hate how superficial Hollywood is with so many things but I'm glad that people don't feel the need to tell you to change it for roles!

Thank you🧡 The toxicity of Hollywood is overwhelming, so I'm hoping I can play a little part in changing the tide. Both women & men should be able to wear their hair how they want. Some roles are particular and I accept that, but when it comes time to do interviews and black tie events, we should be able to do whatever we want!

You are so talented no matter how you wear your hair so it's about time they let you leave it how you want it.
