The Promise (This Chapter: R, for blood and self-injury)
Written by ZB24

The next couple of weeks passed by slowly for Yozora. She spent most of her time muching intermittently on snacks, watching television with glazed eyes, and crying. There was a lot of crying, so much so that her eyes had turned red and become sore.

Hiroto called her every day to make sure she was okay and stopped by her apartment once. He'd seen how miserable she looked and offered to stay, but she insisted on being alone. He was worried about her, but decided just to leave her be. He didn't want to seem like he was forcing his way into her life.

One of those days, she took a walk down to the local liqueur store. She wasn't an alcoholic and she almost never drank, but currently she was seeking something to numb her tired mind.

---

The alcohol only seemed to intensify her emotions, not dissipate them. As soon as the bottle was emptied, she began to cry almost hysterically. The tears became free flowing as loud sobs escaped her mouth. She threw the empty bottle into the wall and watched as the glass shattered. The way the glass flew apart was the same way that the wall she'd put around herself was demolished. She let herself fall haphazardly to the floor and wrapped her arms around herself and sobbed. This wasn't the way it was supposed to go! She thought, This wasn't the way this was supposed to play out! Their lives weren't supposed to cross like this for no reason!!

She jumped up off of the floor and nearly ran into the bathroom. She was very dizzy, but kept moving anyway. She pulled the drawer open frantically and searched for her box cutter. Her hands were shaking violently, but all she knew was that she had to reach the blade, had to dig into her skin with it, had to bleed, had to punish herself.

Everything and everyone she had ever loved had died or left her. She drew the blade quickly across her arms, not thinking clearly. Dicing into her skin and watching the blood flow. This was desperation.

Tears ran off of her chin and into the blood on her arms... It hurt so badly, but that was all she wanted anyway.

Yozora stopped as soon and she felt empty and lethargic. She looked at her arms and grimaced and the sliced flesh. She laid eyes upon herself in the mirror and hated everything she saw reflected there. Angry, she snatched the mirror off of the tossed it out into the hallway. Sharp pieces flew everywhere, as well as droplets of blood from her sliced arms.

Her hand slipped on blood covered counter-top and the let herself slide to the floor. She was so dizzy she could hardly see straight and her head bobbed up and down as tried to stay awake. It wasn't too long before her head it the floor and everything went black. All she could hear was her own breath and even that was slowing fading away...

---

Hiroto pulled the phone away from his ear and pouted. It was usual for Yozora not to answer her phone...

He created a lengthy list of reasons why she hadn't answered, but as logical as those reasons were, none of them felt right. He couldn't explain it, but it was this feeling that caused him to drive to her place as quickly as he possibly could. Something just wasn't right...

---

He knocked frantically on the door and when he got no response he resorted to his copy of the key. He rushed through the door, shutting it quickly behind him and looking around. He immediately noticed the broken liqueur bottle; some splatters and chips of glass remained stuck prominently into the wall. He rushed quickly through the small apartment, calling her name as he went. He was extremely worried about her.

It wasn't too long before he came across her unmoving, bloody body on the bathroom floor. "Yozora! Oh my God~~" He muttered anxiously, even though he was getting her blood all over him, he knelt upon the cold floor and and pulled her limp body into his arms. He stroked some hair out of her face and shook her. "Yozora!!" She opened her eyes as much as she could and mumbled something illegible. "Thank God.." He sighed.

She'd lost a lot of blood. Armed with only a quick glance, you would think the room was coated in it. He used his free hand and gave the 119 operator the apartment address before it was too late. Once the paramedics were dispatched and the call ended the didn't even bother closing the phone, just chucked it to the side and held her tightly. "Yozora," he pressed his cheek against her forehead, "please don't give up on me now okay... Please..."

There was no response and Hiroto could only hope his plea was able to somehow reach her.

A/N: Wrote this over the weekend and just wrapped up the editing. This chapter didn't turn out how I wanted it to either, but hopefully you like it. (. <3
