ZERO (PG)

"If you're dislike all matters, I'll change to 'zero' all of thing." (alice nine. - ZERO)

Today was one of the worst days she'd had in a very long time. What brought it on was unknown, actually. It seemed like it started with the rotten milk she almost poured on her cereal, but she couldn't be sure. Maybe it was the Coke she spilled at lunch. She just didn't know.

Either way, she was in a sour mood. She was sitting on the couch in alice nine's practice room with her feet on the edge of the coffee table; knees bent, arms crossed. She realized she was bringing enough negative energy into the room to fill a gas chamber, but she couldn't bring herself to move off of the couch. She sighed, agitated that not even Hiroto's guitar or Shou's voice could work her out of this cursed emotional rut.

They finished practice at 7PM, after rehearsing Kouchouran many more times than necessary. She stood up and waited patiently while Hiroto put his Les Paul away. He said goodbye to his bandmates before slinging the guitar case over his shoulder and smiling at her. She weakly smiled back as he took her hand and let them out of the studio. Hiroto heaved a sigh...

“Today's practice was hard!” he began. He was tired and excited at the same time. “I think we've finally got it now that Saga tweaked the bassline a bit. Shou did really good too, I think his improved singing technique will help a lot. And Nao! He totally―”

Hiroto's voice was gradually fading away from her consciousness. She had been there to see exactly what he was describing, so it was unnecessary for him to reiterate. She let him talk anyway, although it was boring her to no end. She was snapped out of her trance when she felt Hiroto pulling on her hand. He had stopped and was looking at her curiously.

“Did you hear what I just said?” he asked.
“Eh~ No...” she admitted.
“Are you okay? You've been acting weird all day. Is it something I said?” He was worried now.
“No! No! It's not you! I'm just in a really bad mood.” She explained, so there was no misunderstanding between them.
“I see~” he said, then smiled slyly. “I have just the thing.”

He took her hand and led her to some stairs behind PSC's sprawling lot that led to the roof.

“What are you doing~?” she whined, dragging behind him like an old feed sack.
“Just stick with me here, it's only a little farther.” He hitched his guitar a little higher on his shoulder.

Finally, they made it to a door which Hiroto opened and held open so she could enter. After shutting the door, he took her hand again and led her towards the edge of the roof. He sat his guitar down, propping it against a the railing.

“Sometimes, when I'm in a bad mood, I like to come up here.” He said, as he leaned against the railing.
“Why?!” She said, looking at him as if he had lost his mind. She couldn't see anything appealing about this place. It was kind of dirty felt unsafe.
He laughed a little. “Baby, you gotta look up.”

She did, and from their vantage point you could clearly see the sky and all the stars sprinkled across it like outerspace's version of confetti. She couldn't help but smile as she felt Hiroto hugging her from behind. As he spoke, his breath tickled her ear.

“You know,” he began.

She closed her eyes, listening to his voice.

“There's so reason to be so upset, with a sky like that. Right?”
She was smiling now. “Right. Plus, I've got you.”
He laughed quietly and kissed her cheek. “And you got me...”

They stood there together, looking at the night sky as cool air wrapped around them. Hiroto's hands around her own. After some time, Hiroto quietly spoke.

“The sky connects every living thing... it's something common to everyone in the world, no matter where they reside. You'll never feel alone if you know that someone, right now, is looking at the same thing as you."

She didn't respond and simply let the weight of his words float on the wind. The more she contemplated his words, the truer they became.

With every breath she exhaled, the wind carried away her negative emotions.

“Thank you, Hiroto.” she said.
“No problem. Feel better?” He asked, smiling as he moved to face her.
“Yeah, I do.” she smiled.
“Good. Let's go home.” he said, picking up his guitar and taking her by the hand.

-----

It was in the night you came,
speaking my name.

You took my hand,
and led me to land,
not too far off from here.

You told me to cast my worries into the sky,
and to let myself feel high.

Well, I never told you then,
although I felt it all to well,
that I didn't need the sky or tricks,
just your love, affection, and care.

I wasn't planning on writing a fanfiction this weekend, but this suddenly came to me and I had to write it. I hope you enjoyed it! I wrote this one for myself. XD

Hiroto really does like the sky you know. See: click. (^_~)
