For any of you deviants out there (or anyone else curious) I've been doing a fair bit to my dA page lately (a fair bit for me, anyway). Since I bought the new camera I've been trying a heap of stuff I was unable to do with the old one, as well as honing my skills in general. I'm still a LONG way from good... but I'd like to think I'm getting closer ( Read more... )

Bah. It's practice :) You should see how bad some of my shots from a few years ago were!

But thanks :) I'm glad you like :)

Oh PS: consider yourself watched ;)

You're talking to the world's worst shaker here :D While there's nothing that beats a good steady tripod, there's ways that you can minimise the effects of shaking.

Getting closer to what you're taking a photo of is a big one, rather than relying on the zoom. Doing so also gives you the potential for a better picture by narrowing your depth of field - there's no substitute for being close (apart from if you're lucky enough to have a huge 300mm lens like elffinarts does :D)

Depending on how good your camera is you may also be able to adjust the shutter speed. A fast shutter speed will minimise shake, but you're limited by available light - shots in low light levels are always more difficult to take without shaking.

What camera do you have?
