Help with a Mary Gentle book: A Sundial in a Grave: 1610

Alright, so this weekend I started reading a book that I picked up in the supercheap bin at Borders because I thought Mary Stewart's Merlin books were great and I was curious what she was up to lately. Haven't read that book, but Gentle tends to do shit like that a lot. She's a good writer, but an annoying plotter.

Pretty much what tavella said. I've only read a couple of her early books. While I enjoyed her prose very much, her plotting made me scratch my head and say "er, whut?" in several places.

I think the idea was that if he gave the French Queen access to the future knowledge of Prophetdude, there would be peace between England and France. And I mean what. Because of course she's not just going to /invade/ and /steal/ Prophetdude...!!
