Portland next weekend

I'll be up in Portland next weekend for Irene and Edwin's wedding. I have not yet figured out where I'll be staying (may fall back on the Edgefield hostel just from familiarity) so if you have desire for a roommate or know someone who might, sing out ( Read more... )

Not sure whether we'd be up for a houseguest - (if it were just me, I'd say "Sure!" but my partners tend to need more notice than a week and I haven't spoken to them yet) - but I have a recommendation if not: the Hawthorne hostel, which is the first place I ever slept in Portland, is awesome, is reasonably centrally located compared to Edgefield (although it doesn't have the resort-y feel), and coincidentally is in my neighborhood where I'd be happy to show you around even if we turn out not to be able to put you up.

Oo, thanks for the tip on the Hawthorne! I will check it out! No worries on the houseguest-y-ness. Though speaking of which, do you have a place to stay in SF when you're down here? I have a house in Oakland that's not too far from transit... Either way, would be nice to see you at some point. Do touristy stuff, maybe. :)

I'm mostly going to be at my parents' place in the South Bay - but I would love to see you sometime while I'm up there!

Transit from the South Bay can be dodgy, so I'm not sure exactly how I'm likely to sort it out -- possibly I will want to stay up there for a couple of days while seeing my City and East Bay people. We'll see. :-)

Er, face, meet palm. I'm down there to pick up a car from my parents. And ALSO visit people, but I appear to have filed those things in different mental buckets. (They may wind up affecting my visit, to be honest, since I'm not sure what point in the visit will see the car actually transferred to me, but still - apparently, I got permanently stuck in the habit of mucking about with bus schedules when I lived there. D'oh.)

When I lived in Seattle, I loved to take the Coastal Starlight down to Portland... often to visit Guy & Simone. The train is my preferred method of travel. I would grab one of the upper deck seats with the tabletop between them, pull out my laptop, and spend the entire trip writing, reading, or playing games.
