I read almost all the books my mother reads, because my mother likes to talk about the books she has read. The only other person with whom my mother might talk about almost all the books she reads is her sister (who reads many of the same books my mother reads), and my mother dislikes talking to her sister

Why is a 109 year old interested in a high schooler? According to the book, it's because she smells really good. Also, because he can read minds, but for some reason he can't read hers. But also because she smells seriously awesome.

I think he enrolled in high school just so no social services entity would come after his "parents" for not having a teenager in school.

He can't read her mind because they're IN LOVE. I don't know. I didn't like it myself. Perhaps the high school enrollment is more about not attracting attention in a small town from nosy neighbors than actual official officials.
