Cupcakes in Jars!

I saw this on a food blog and it looked so cute. I thought it would make a fun idea for a friend's birthday. I use a vanilla cupcake recipe, coloured some of it pink and spooned it into the jars, then popped them in the oven and they cooked in the jars. Topped with my favourite Betty Crocker Vanilla frosting and pastel sprinkles. You eat them with ( Read more... )

Waaaaah... sorry for the randomness, but this one is so cute and unique. I think there's no cupcakes like this in my country Indonesia. Make me want to try to made one. Do you use a special jar for this? Anti-heat jar? I'm kind of afraid they will explode, break or something if I popped them in the oven @_@;

Sorry for my cluelessness >.<;;;

Hi ^^
No special jars. I couldn't find new jars in shops in the size I wanted so I went to the supermarket and found small jars of Sago on sale really cheap. I put the Sago in another container and washed out the jars!

Glass will only break when there's a sudden change in temperature. In the oven they're warming up gradually. The instructions I followed said to arrange them on a baking tray and put a quarter of an inch of water in the bottom of the tray. I think that also stopped the glass from heating up too fast. Anyway, it wasn't hard at all. The hardest part was finding the right size jars ^^

They were very portable too. I didn't have to worry about them falling over when I took them on the bus XD

The baking method sounds so odd though! Baking in a jar...doesn't sound like it should come out with the same consistency as normal cupcakes. I kinda want to try this. Can you refer me to the recipe?
