Assassin's Creed Wiki Personality:
Rodrigo Borgia is much complicated character, manipulative and working with determination. He is very cruel, slightly sadistic, and emotionless toward peoples. He only cares about himself, his family and his allies, and even for those peoples, he won't shed a tear or feel sadness if something was to happen to them. Nevertheless, as he believes he works for the betterment of humanity and wishes to put an end to war and violence, it shows he at least cares for humans in a general way, even though he despises what they are and couldn't care less at the death of some of them as long as it means his objectives will be accomplished.
In spite of having spent most of his life working hand in hand with the Christian Church, he does not believe in the Church and any of its precepts, he in fact despises it and as well as all other kind or form of religions. He does not care either about notions such as morality, good and evil, being a firm believer that the end justify the means. In his eyes the Church as well as any other existing religion, are little more than tools created to offer a reassuring illusion to peoples, to ease the pain of their meaningless lives, to give them the belief there is some greater purpose to their existence, making it much more easy for peoples such as himself to control the mass. Having become Pope, the highest rank in the Christian Church, he has then accomplished one of his objective to become one, if not the most influent leader in the world.
He dedicated his whole life to accomplish his dream, based upon the belief that he is the Prophet destined to assemble the two Pieces of Eden known as the Apple and the Staff, in order to meet and ultimately defeat God. This objectives goes along with his other main objective, that happens to be also the Templars' main objective. Indeed, in spite of his lack of apparent morality, Rodrigo is the Grand Master of the Templar Order, and that since about twenty years. His personal purpose to meet and defeat God goes along with the purpose of the order he leads, sharing their belief and dream of a world where war would be a mere memory. A world where violence would be no more. To achieve such a dream, he, as all other templars, wish to deprive humanity of its right to free-will, making of humans mindless puppets living forever within an illusion.
Because he is the Grand Master of the Templar Order and an experimented manipulator, Rodrigo has numerous allies, both within and outside of the Templar Order, and can quite easily make new allies to help in his purpose, either because their beliefs are the same then his own, or because he'd offer them lies, illusions to control them, and then get rid of them when they're not needed. Rodrigo proved to show no remorse at killing a faithful, ancient allies sharing his dreams if it meant helping his plans. A master in the art to corrupt, Rodrigo can corrupt peoples even amongst his oldest enemies thanks to false promises or threats made to them and their family, friends. Any means to reach his objective are good.
Rodrigo goes as far in that belief that his own family became part of his plans and backups, his own children having been raised as deadly weapons that he could put to further use once they'd have reached maturity. Because he is such a manipulative character, most peoples think of him as a respectable character who worked very hard in his life. As the Pope, some peoples even venerate him. The only one to see through his masks are the Assassins, the historical enemies of Templar order, who he despises, hate and wish to see erased from the world forever.
Nevertheless, Rodrigo isn't perfect. Sometimes his plans are flawed, leading to them failing, and he cannot predict every possible outcome to his plan. As such, his enemies successfully countered his plans at time, but he is a very intelligent character and rarely commits twice the same mistake, learning from them and improving constantly his plotting.
Powers & Abilities:
While Rodrigo on his own doesn't posses any specific powers, neither magical skills, nor super human strength, he has full control over the Staff of Eden and all of its powers. He is also an experimented fighter both with a sword and a staff/spear, and also excels at hand to hand combat. Despite his lack of any specific power, Rodrigo remains the most formidable fighter the Master Assassin Ezio Auditore fought during his quest for vengeance.
Rodrigo's real strength is in his intelligence, his ability to plot, make plans that may take years to come to a conclusion, but that generally give excellent results. A Mastermind, Rodrigo spent an important part of his life at the head of the Templar Order, plotting to accomplish the Templars' dream to control humanity, to deprive every humans of free-will, thus leading to eternal peace. He proved his intelligence when he successfully corrupted close friends to the Auditore Family and took advantage of the absence of their friend and protector, Lorenzo de Medici, to execute most males within the family. A very patient man, he can plot shift of powers into the different cities of Italy and Europe, and planned for over twenty years his election as Pope.
