Poor Smokescreen. He has the perfect mixture of training and experience to see how badly things are falling apart.

On the other hand, he has a Plan. Jazz and Prowl are just hanging on and trying to deal with the aftermath as it arises.

Is Red Alert relieved or more freaked out by Jazz and Prowl's return to the Ark?

I imagine Red is freaked out and relieved in turns, depending on his mood from moment to moment. It's not a good situation for anyone. But as you say, Smokescreen has a plan and Ratchet hasn't been idle either...

I'm thinking that the Autobots need to work on their communication skills. Poor Smokey woke up with no idea about what was going on. At least he figured it out fast; no thanks to his fellow crew mates.

I'm feeling so bad for Jazz and Prowl but now that the Decepticons don't remember them that must be a great strategic advantage. :)

I suspect the strategic advantage has occurred to Prowl, but they're not really in a position to do much about it. On the other hand, the Decepticons have Starscream and you have to assume he's in a better position to undo his work than Ratchet is.

I agree with you completely about the Autobots' communications skills. For some reason, the Optimus Prime in my head seemed inclined to believe that talking about this will just deepen the differences between them and it's best to ignore the problem and trust to Autobot nature to deal with it. I'm not sure I believe him...

It became clear to me during our captivity that Starscream is still significantly conflicted regarding his role in the early stages of the war, and that he was in considerable discomfort at being forced to face that conflict after a lengthy period of denial.
Oh golly, Prowl. Honey pie. Yeah, that's one way to put it. And I don't think Starscream's the only one that's good at denial either.

Aaah, just feeling so awful for everybody here, really - so confused and unhappy and no one wants to be intentionally cruel but there's just no way to fake something they don't feel, or trust without that long history of knowledge of one another. I'm wondering just how Smokey's "careful reintegration approach" is going to pan out - hoping it works, for all their sakes! *crosses fingers*

Yes, things are kind of rough. And Prowl was awake for enough of Starscream's rant to take it to heart. But everyone is trying their best.

Thanks for your comments. I'll try to catch up with them - I'm away from home at the moment (sneakily typing this in a conference talk, in fact!), but I loved hearing your thoughts in each chapter.
