Recreating Life

From this New Scientist article, perhaps scientists could recreate life using particular DNA strands, found in permafrost...

I remember hearing awhile back that NASA might have discovered permafrost on Mars. If that's the case, then perhaps DNA could be extracted from that too.

I don't follow how earth permafrost containing DNA strands implies that Marsian permafrost contains DNA

earth dust, particularly in the Middle East and in Afghanistan, may have stastically high levels of "depleted" uranium; that doesn't mean dust on Mars has depleted uranium

To follow-up kvschwartz's comment, even if there is/was life on Mars, there's no reason to believe its biology is based on DNA. There could very well be other organic molecules that serve similiar purposes which we would not recognize, at least at first.
