Day 33: Practical Action
Website:
practicalaction.org/ This charity was another suggestion from koryne. Practical Action is a charity based around spreading ideas and teaching people in 12 countries how to create their own technology in order to improve their standard of living. This operates on the 'give a man a fish/teach a man to fish' principle of sustainable economic improvement in which practical 'solutions' to poverty (such as physical infrastructure, machinery and equipment, knowledge and skills and the capacity to organise and use all of these) are provided and positive feedback from the improvements then hopefully begins to lift the community to a better overall quality of life in the medium to long term. There's not much more to say really - they connect useful tools with people who can use them thoroughly.
“Any intelligent fool can make things bigger, more complex, and more violent. It takes a touch of genius - and a lot of courage - to move in the opposite direction.” - E.F. Schumacher;
