It's possible you should also try a nation that isn't Egypt or Persia - I have heard much better reports of deeper roleplaying goodness from Rome and to some extent the good bits of Carthage (although I've also heard that of the good bits of Persia too). OTOH I am now quite glad I did not push myself to show up to ODC with a cold and doubly glad that I have definitely given up crewing it, as it sounds like all of the problems I was most irritated about are still in place...
This event was the first time I've been to Odyssey and felt actively unhappy for part of it. Part of that was my own fault, as I should have changed footwear sooner- as soon as I had dry, comfortable feet I felt ten times more positive. Until that point I was feeling like we were constantly under unreasonable IC pressure- not just to win battles, but with things like messengers demanding priests to do A Thing when all our priests were still off trying to do the last thing they had been summoned for. Once again I failed to be in all the places I was supposed to be or to eat meals on time
( ... )
I was passing through Egypt, and heard someone offer hospitality. As a red-blooded Persian (who was supposed to be somewhere else), I felt it my duty to not only partake, but also relate positively of the experience to other civilised people of the middle sea.
