Peaceful surrender

I invested a lot of time and effort (and a few dollars) into trees and shrubs for our personal landscape last year. I planted in the spring, summer, and into the fall, right up until I could no longer dig holes in the frozen ground. How come the deer don't attack the green ash, boxelder, bur oak, or silver maples?

I think part of it is safety in numbers, because I know that deer will eat some of these trees, except box elder. Those are tough trees that grow quickly. I don't know why so few people like box elders.

Scratch that. The deer nipped the leaves from two boxelder trees last night. Why don't they eat the buckthorn bushes?!
