Nick finally gave me permission to install a version of linux on one of our computers. Our laptop has had Ubuntu on it for a couple of days now. Works a treat

That was the impression I was getting, yeah: the developers all going "we said 4.0 was a developer-only release!" while the distro maintainers assumed that "version 4.0 official" meant "ready for prime-time". Fedora even removed KDE 3.5 from their repos altogether, apparently.

(Not that I'm all that much of a computer geek at all these days...)

4.2 is the first version that really lives up to the 3.x series, IMO.
