That was a great scene. It said so much about Uhura, Spock and their relationship. Some say it shows that Spock is whipped, but I think it shows that Uhura is a skilled communicator. She knew that the quickest manner to get her rightful assignment was to point out the errors in his logic and judgment by reciting her overwhelming qualifications.

This is exactly how I see it. zeezeelive February 13 2010, 21:20:11 UTC
But beneath all that logic and communication is a ticked off young woman.

I love this! It took me like 5 rewatchs of the movie to understand the scene this way, but I think you got it exactly right :)

I particulary liked the last two paragraphs. They are really Spock :)

I've watched the scenes many times myself. zeezeelive February 13 2010, 21:15:03 UTC
I think I figured out everything except that smile Uhura gives at the end. That smile is an enigma. One of the things that seems so unique about the scene is that Spock seems a little easier to figure out than Uhura.

Thanks. zeezeelive February 13 2010, 21:17:56 UTC
I think that Spock has come up with reasonable explanations for all of his interactions with Nyota. We know it's love, but I don't think he figures that out until his conversation with his father.

Whenever I watch this scene the aftemath is if Uhura did not speak up for herself she would be dead in the movie, (assuming the Farragut was totally destroyed with all hands..If it was not for Kirk and overhearing her talk with Gaila....the consequences might have been catastrophic, talk about butterfly effect. I wonder if the sequel will brush over that Spock would have been an indirect instrument of his lover's death due to his unprofessionalism in the hanger bay.
