I just got an e-mail stating I am eligible for a phone upgrade with $100 rebate... depending on my finances, I think I'll do this soon. The Droid X acctually has the Froyo OS on it now, it should come with an automatic update when you get the phone, or you can force the update. Also my Droid 1 came with a 16gb Micro SD card with it when I bought it.
Not to mention, the acctual Droid X is HUGE (it wouldn't fit in any of my pockets when I tried the phone at the store). The dimentions of the droid x at abotu 5 inches by 2.5 inches. The droid 1/2 is about 4.5 inches by 2.4 inches.
BTW, I know KP has the Droid 1 like I do... it's possible to special order the Droid 2's battery and cover and use them on the Droid 1, and thereby get the longer battery life of the Droid 2> http://www.droidforums.net/forum/droid-accessories/69538-droid-1-2-extended-battery-6.html

And as Cactusjack stated, it has been upgraded to 2.2, so that is not a factor between the two devices. Your new phone will either come with it already installed, or it will pop up as an update shortly after activating the device.
My advice: Go to a Verizon store and play with them. They'll be glad to let you touch and use the phones, and you'll get a good feel if the touchscreen keyboards are something you can handle.
