Long day, and a stupid scare

Oct 18, 2010 00:03

Short story: Zuzu is in the hospital for a few days with a urinary catheter. He should be fine, but the vet is annoying. I'm worried because my baby is away from home. ;_;

cut for length and probable boringness )

Don't let them talk you into something you're not comfortable with. You know Zuzu best, not them. Get him straight to your normal vet and have Dr. Jones prescribe the best course of action for Zuzu. If Dr. Jones thinks Zuzu should be monitored, then his (?)office will be the one to do if. If they can't watch him overnight, have Zuzu taken to VT and not T&C. It may be more money, but it sounds like it's far better care for Zuzu.

They should have never told you this sort of thing over the phone either. I'd probably speak to Dr. Jones about a good diet for Zuzu now too.

Zuzu is settled in at our vet, now, and I'm definitely having a talk with Dr. Jones about Zuzu's diet plan once his urine is all clear. :3

From what I understand of doctors in general, they tend to give the worst-case scenario so that if it happens, it's not a huge shock to the family. I can imagine it being hard to take, since when you're trying to remain rational in situations like this, having the doom and gloom piled on just makes it all the harder!

I'll admit, I had trouble reading this. I hope Zuzu is fine. We had a male red tabby that had blockages in his later years, but they were being caused by a tumor...and it didn't end well for him. I hope this situation is completely different, and that Zuzu can come home to live a long, happy life.

D: I'm so sorry. Poor kitty...

Thanks for the well-wishes. :3 I think Zuzu will be just fine with a new diet and lots of antibiotics.

T__T Poor little Zuzu! I'm so glad you are able to recognize when your animals are in distress. That vet does sound really weird.. kinda too focused on doom and gloom.
I hope he gets to come home safe and sound soon. Is there some kind of supplement or special food to help prevent that kind of thing?

Yeah, he'll have to be on a special prescription diet for at least a couple weeks while his system flushes out. I'll probably switch him to a different diet, anyway... one with a lower protein content.

Poor Zuko. You had more patience with that woman than I would have. Keep us updated about him!

Ack, I hope he gets better really fast! Ugh, I hate going to the emergency vet and their stupid high-price visit thing.. blech..
And omg I know how you feel about the vet needing to say all the worse things ever to you even though all you wanna hear is the solution for the here and now.. my dog has a heart murmer and its been getting bad lately so we had to get her 2 different meds recently. When I went to get the 2nd med she talked like that and I just kept thinking "wtf thanks?? stfu now please I just wanna get the stupid pills..." >_<
So I really hope he doesnt need anything too drastic and that he's back in your arms safe and sound quickly!

Thanks. *hug*

Yeah, emergency vet prices can be insane. This one visit came to very, very high... I think even with the high initial emergency fee, VT would have been cheaper in the end! Oh well. Live and learn.
