Zuzu came home on Wednesday! He's feeling much better, and is peeing. He's on a new urinary tract health diet, and he misses his old kibble, but I think he'll do just fine. He had to have the PU surgery (they cut off the tip of his penis and suture what remains to the outside, effectively making him anatomically female) because of a lot of blockages (no crystals, but they were never able to figure out what exactly was blocking him up). Hasn't had any urinary problems since -- though I do wonder, did your vet mention putting him on a can diet?
I'm not sure exactly with the crystals if that's something they do a lot, but I know it was heavily recommended that Merlin be put on a can diet for the extra moisture.

Zuzu is going to be on a canned Urinary Tract Health diet for a while. After a few weeks, I might try this ProPlan urinary tract kibble diet. I wanna make sure he's totally flushed out from this blockage before I try anything like that, though.

It was very drastic, but it also saved his life. After his initial blockage, I had to bring him in again two weeks later because he was blocked again. This time they had him catheterized, but whenever they removed it, he'd block again within 30 minutes. By that point, we'd tried all other solutions and because he was blocking repeatedly and so fast, it was the only option left.
It was done at the ER vet, who was very reputable, and they did a lot of PU surgeries compared to my regular vet.
