What did you do in 2012 that you have never done before?
Mm, graduated? Other than that, I'd say stayed out past midnight for a movie-themed party (The Hobbit).
Did you keep all of last years resolutions?
Not a one.
Have you any resolutions for next year?
Probably the same ones as last year (exercise and plan my goals better), as well as spork more, get a job actually relating to my major, and probably get a place of my own.
What countries did you visit?
None.
What would you like to have in 2013 that you didn't have in 2012?
A job relating to my major, preferably a book of mine to be published (pipe dreams are allowed, right?).
What date in 2012 will remain etched in your memory?
Um... none, really. I'm a terrible, terrible person who is awful at pinpointing events to specific dates.
What was your biggest achievement of the year?
I graduated!
What was your biggest failure?
Can't really think of anything huge. I guess overall not going for the gusto?
Did you suffer any illness or injury?
No, for which I am most thankful.
What was the best thing you bought?
A box of Hostess Snack Rolls. God damn, but those things are delicious.
Whose behaviour made you appalled and depressed?
Jeez, any of the people who tried to use the Connecticut shooting to make some political statement. I don't even care which side, just any of them. That includes the WBC.
Also, the asshat who wrote The Turner Diaries, whose name I won't even bother to remember, and who I had the misfortune of learning about recently.
Where did most of your money go?
Various snack foods (usually chocolate, though I ended up drowning my sorrows in a depressing number of Doritos), figurines of video game characters, and earbuds that are sold in the public library vending machine for a dollar.
What did you get really really really excited about?
My dad coming home from Vancouver (he was sent there after Belarus, of course), learning about season 5 of Hetalia, The Hobbit, and Les Miserables.
What songs will always remind you of 2012?
Um... for some reason
Human, by The Killers.
Compared to this time last year are you fatter or thinner?
About the same, I think.
Compared to this time last year are you happier or sadder?
Mm, all in all, happier.
Compared to this time last year are you richer or poorer?
About the same, I suppose.
What do you wish you'd done more of?
Writing my book, writing my fanfiction, and sporking.
What do you wish you'd done less of?
Gotten so addicted to chocolate, I suppose. I'm trying to learn the mystic art of handling money responsibly, and I can't be dropping a lot on Snickers bars. Also, just moseying around the internet. I never accomplish anything, and I just pick up more stuff I want to do.
How will you be spending Christmas?
Opened presents, consumed chocolate and Cheez-its, and went to visit relatives. Spent the rest of the day listening to music and playing Kid Icarus.
Which LJ users did you meet for the first time?
A number of new people, who have come via various links to my sporkings. Wonderful to meet you, guys
Did you fall in love in 2012?
Yes!
How many one night stands?
None at all.
What was your favourite TV show?
Erm, I'd say it's Downton Abbey, A Song of Ice and Fire, Call the Midwife, and Being Human.
Downton Abbey just kept it coming with the fantastic characters, the interwoven storylines, the humor, the tearjerks, just...everything! And I loved that instead of setting Matthew and Mary back to the awkward "I hate you, you hate me" phase, the show had the two of them on uneasy but friendly terms. It was a nice change from how spontaneous break-ups tend to be handled.
A Song of Ice and Fire was all sorts of awesome. I sadly have yet to read the books *ducks rotten fruit*, but I really must. I loved the new characters and settings, as well as the set-up of everyone vying for the throne. I also thought the siege of King's Landing was powerful, and I felt so sorry for Sansa.
Call the Midwife is just amazing. My mom suggested I watch it so I gave it a try, wondering how interesting midwifery could get. The show really is worth watching. I love the development of Jenny Lee. I love the friendship between the inhabitants of the Nonatus House. I love the romance subplots, and that they are kept nicely-paced and don't overwhelm the other aspects of the show. I love how the episodes deal with getting to know so many of the patients, and how vastly different things turn out for so many of them. And dear lord, I love Chummy! That woman is made of win.
I was a bit worried when the newest season of Being Human began, what with most of the original cast being killed off (and Nina being killed offscreen! Dick move, though I understand the actress left suddenly). I really took to the new characters, though. Tom and Hal had a great bromance going. I also thought Hal's story arc was very well done, showing how he went from being a merciless killer to a slightly awkward man trying to atone for his sins. The mystery about Eve was compelling, and the reveal of what the future would be... yeah, that was terrifying. And while I'm sad Annie's gone, I am looking forward to seeing how Alex will be.
Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
Can't think of anyone, no.
What was/were the best books you read?
In the Fantasy area, that would be The Night Circus. Has got to be the most beautiful imagery and narrative voice I've seen in so long. Seriously, I loved it to death.
In the Sci-Fi area, that would be Across the Universe and its sequel, A Million Suns. The author wrote up what sounds like the same tired young adult novel formula (ordinary teenage girl enters "gimicky" dystopia and meets leading not-so-normal boy), but she actually takes time to do revolutionary things like explore the political and social issues of sticking several generations of people on a spaceship. It's not hugely deep, but it's still pretty interesting. And the relationship between Amy and Elder is very well done. I loved reading about both of them, and I can't wait to read the last book in the series.
What was your greatest musical discovery?
Hmm. Well, I discovered
Europa, by Globus. I also discovered the songs for Turnabout Musical, which are pretty awesome.
What did you want and get?
An alarm clock that I can set without breaking my fingers, my dad back in the United States, a 3DS, to graduate from college, and a box of Cheez-its.
What did you want and not get?
To get more of my writing done,
What was your favourite film this year?
Oh jeez. I'd say it'd be The Hobbit, with The Life of Pi coming in a close second. Of course, I have yet to actually see Les Miserables, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it will slide up to number one.
What did you do on your birthday and how old were you?
I turned twenty-two and I just sort of hung around the house. It was my busy class day, and my dad was on a business trip in Belarus. I did mention to my Postmodernism teacher it was my birthday, so he and the class wished me well. I also got Ace Attorney and Professor Layton and the Diabolical Box, so those occupied me for most of my free time.
What one thing would have made your year more satisfying?
Can't really think of anything, besides if I'd have finished some writing projects.
How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2012?
Casual. I also was given two pairs of fluffy Hello Kitty slippers that I wear every night.
What kept you sane?
Sane?
For serious, music, writing, and fairy tales. Really.
Which celebrity did you fancy the most?
Benedict Cumberbatch.
Which political issue stirred you the most?
I've been trying to avoid political issues this year.
Who did you miss?
My dad, whenever he was away.
Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned this year?
Just keep chugging along.
