In which my mother responded to me with TWO CATHOLIC E-GREETINGS.
See combined text of both here:
I did not perceive my message to be one of intolerance. I saw it as a wakeup call to my fellow citizens to get excited about being Canadian! Gilles Duceppe said it the other evening on the news. He wishes the rest of Canada was as passionate about their country as the people of Quebec are about their province. I've been part of ceremonies in different cultures all over the world but do not insist on putting my customs before the nation's I'm in. I would like the same respect in my homeland. Joyeux Noel, Felice Navidad and Merry, merry Christmas. Love you and love the way you think,
Mummy
A quick note on Quebec: It is the most liberal of the Canadian provinces and houses Canada's largest Jewish population (in Montreal). And I'm pretty sure Gilles Duceppe would be peeved to be implicated in this twisted logic.
Hello again,
Security will not allow me to use the reply mode on my email at the office. Anyway, I have said a prayer for peace and will henceforth be very careful when I forward any emails.
Love our neighbours as ourselves. Do unto others as you would have them do unto you? Does that mean if I respect others then I would like them to respect me?
I always thought so.
With Love,
Mummy
I might be reading it wrong, but I'm pretty sure she thinks it is alright to tell non-Christians to leave Canada if they refuse to adopt Christian practices.
I am disgusted.
Good luck to her if she ever has her human rights violated in Canada or abroad. My mother is hiding behind Catholicism and pretending she isn't a bigot because of it.
She also called me three times this morning and left three messages because she "just wanted to say hi."
Sure she did.
I am torn.
