Violence in Video Games

I stayed home today for some tough sinus problems, and I watched a G4 Special Report on "Violence in Video Games." They spoke with a victim of the Columbine massacre, showed scenes from the Westside shooting, and other examples of violence believed to be related to video games. It made me think. You make a lot of good points, but there are some other things to consider. There are theories that increasing levels of violence in games and entertainment tend to desensitize society to violence. That probably is true to some extent. Historically we're emerging from a very protected age. Violence was once part of everyday life. Hangings and beheadings were public entertainment. Is that where we want to go?

Good answers are rarely simple. I need to watch the program; I haven't yet. Always watch things like that with as open a mind as possible. It's easy to watch something like that with a preconceived idea that it's going to be "wrong". The program may make several valid points. I even occasionally learn something from listening to the shrubbery. (You know who I mean). Not often, of course, but occasionally!
