Then Sing - a fic erasure?

Jul 02, 2009 17:06

I erased lassiterfics's Merlin fic The Ink Still Drying, and got this! It is kind of long for an erasure. But I kind of like it.

notes on process: I messed with order kind of a lot - I did it visually with clusters of words in a word doc, and then decided to do crazy things with how I ordered those clusters, and it's kind of crazy. I don't think I could recreate it as an erasure with all the spaces where they should be and have it be readable. But I didn't do any crazy word creation other than in the title.

The Ink Still Drying
A Merlin erasure. Text all by lassiterfics. Rated, um, PG? for being suggestive

Together they have overcome both mountains and sea
beyond his touch
slip through his fingers
the aftermath, the inbetweens
left said It is injust
his left hand and his right

the future is crowding out the past
demanding like clear knowing
magic tells him lose yourself
She enjoys being, sees
it would consume her. He needs her

replies, "I told you
don't fear. avoid distraction.
We both see"
I've sworn to keep myself
My heart.
the mirror of our own storm
outstretched eyes
gold has nothing to do with destiny
everything to do with you

right
You take The honor and love
don't forget time moves on
mutters
We are all others
slipping into each other
the king's hand man other sister
by blood then by both the word and Merlin
right never never manifests above the magical, actual
learning how to See gave him what to see
to defuse his answer
I am not afraid of you
I am afraid of me

my question blossomed
distance
a bone, and the world.
Seeing, by virtue of might
watching and refusing to look up
but might
demands her hands
his eyes
his back
her arm
his heart and breath
her voice
his shoulder blades
you
I like you
you are that acceptance
the dragon all over fire
she flows like water, undone by her hand
his hair
his face.
my heart Is not enough

fingertips warmly breathing
jagged veins close
unhewn and unafraid everywhere:
see It's difficult not to feel you
and fraught with this, it is familiar
to bend to saying
her expression and her hands withdrawing
you look back
that voice saying
his arms
her forehead
her sigh in full bloom

Merlin and Arthur and Gwen used to take her here
They used to spend hours in the shade
women about men
I don't want you
he finally says
Gwen murmurs
she begins
She says Arthur, Merlin
smiling
idiot
an idiot
Merlin? We live in the same castle.
That's not what I mean.
his hands forget the strange silences

an idiot would know why.
They both know why.
The king and queen and the world.
a lot of things never end
Gwen finishes up
to kiss
her palm
Merlin

dreams wake up from empty dreams
he lets the woods swallow her.
every dream is now
all time now
He should.
He doesn't.

He dreams of burning
his name as a call to arms
Morgana murmurs
in the middle of the heart in his chest

I've been killing you, Merlin
which part he demands of it
which?
all the parts
all of her
the dragon tuts at him
the truth already in his mind
against consequences

he Arthur Gwen Morgana snakes
Even they are just Time's thoughts
beginning to understand certain things
Sight
means
death
Causality
inevitability
words

now, already beginning
Morgana leaves
She leaves replies
the note begins itself in elegant movements
their strain generous and faint
a kiss her note
fine.
she left some high tension
her body
merely time

there are still traces in him
someone who listens to the stars and talks to the invisible world
but Merlin has chosen time.
Arthur figures that must count for something.

your dreams tell us when the leaves turn and the air grows cold
the return of much rejoicing
of lingering embraces and extravagant dancing
You Stop to dance
to dance well-soused
You were he, you're you looking into Merlin's eyes
and Gwen laughs at Lancelot saying his story
looking in Merlin's eyes

finally dance,
eyes affectionate
his shoulder, Arthur's hand
I'll dance
his king is the easy warmth that drew
her gentleness and the goodness of her heart
and yet somehow her feet firmly planted
dance
to dance
to win a woman's heart

You hate dancing.
The king and queen laugh through the song and a faint smile
and time ripples

mountains and the sea
shifting
closer to her He can feel distance
wrapped she bends over earth
she is waves
a gesture blank
Merlin pours the water out
and knows time is right
Merlin has time,
all of them
the weight of years sometimes calls out
sometimes
something
but they are always gone into the ground
for Merlin had said staggering off the field
The king is right
Lancelot a good man
Arthur undoing Lancelot
Gwen blushed. things change when they don't.

Merlin has picked up habit
while Arthur looks over by the window
wonder at shortsighted dreams in the sunshine
despite Arthur's mouth
Merlin's claim
despite here and now

I don't know why I always win his hand

Everything in its own time.

Gwen, I don't see her much these days.

You were the one, Merlin, yes
but maybe you shouldn't bend the king to trusting the water
the change in the foundations
replies hesitating
idiot
an idiot
horizon
you don't deny the land

his arm around Merlin's shoulders
and he fears nothing
but a little bleedthrough
again
he knows time.
