I is in Belgium

Dec 30, 2009 04:27

So... we are finally in Belgium. We took an overnight bus from London yesterday. I somehow ended up sitting next to some French man who thought it would be a good idea to talk to me all night long about my accent, how much he thinks Canadians are nice people and how bad he wants to move to Montreal. So yeah.... As you can imagine, I did not get ( Read more... )

LOL you have quite a sense of humor. :-p

The best thing about traveling is adding all this cool stuff to the list of "yep, done that". Now you can say you've survived a gang altercation...with mohawks! Hahahahaaaaa

I hope you're having a great time! :-)

Pee on the street. That's free. ;-)

Hahah... Since we last talked... I probably could add a few more things to that list, such as:

- Witnessing organized crime in action.
- Getting rid of pickpockets by staring at them.
- Being called an asshole by a homeless person for not giving her money.
- Getting flashed by some prostitute sitting in front of the window in the red light district.

This place is definitely lovely.

Brussels is great. If you drive. The architecture is nice, definitely agree about that. However, I too was not impressed with the stone roads that I once before have also had to haul luggage over.
We went into a great cathedral in the center of the city (do not remember the name for the life of me) and bats kept falling from the ceiling to the floor around us. There, that's my Brussels experience. :P

Thanks for sharing your Brussels experience. :)

I have probably taken photos of that cathedral you saw... but I haven't actually entered it (I think it was closed due to the holidays). I thought it was quite pretty from the outside... especially at this time of the year. They put a bunch of Christmas lights that play along with music on it. It was quite impressive to say the least. I suppose the center is probably the best thing I'll remember about Brussels, sadly.

"That guy seemed ok to me ~ that is until you told me he asked to use your ipod and stuff........I mean...slightly odd to say the least."

I totally did not want him to use my ipod... but since I am a nice guy, I could not refuse his weird request. Needless to say, thanks to my taste in music, I got my iPod back rather quickly. :P

"You failed to mention how much trouble she got in for doing this........but I agree that was pretty mean of her. :/"

That was almost as bad as leaving me in the middle of a ticket printing nightmare to go to the post office. :P

"I agree........Just pee anywhere ~ I always used to do that in Europe and (as you know) I am a girl."

I will totally pee anywhere next time I have to. Just wait and see....

"I would have totally said NO!!!"

If I said no, things would probably have been pretty awkward for the rest of the trip.... actually, things were awkward most of the time.

He was really into sharing. i.e. he wanted to share with me the water bottle he found under his seat...

"Well this is something to look forward to. :/"

I'm sure you just can't wait.

Ah, I remember getting around was HORRIBLE in Brussels. I never got around to posting details about any of my spring break travels, I just realized, but finding my hostel from the train station was horrible, navigating the trams/busses at night when you're alone and female is no fun (which you won't have a problem with, haha), and the metro just skeeved me out for some reason. However, despite it all I managed to have the most fun in that city.

Amuses-toi bien! manges des frites pour moi!!!!

See, the thing is, I am actually staying in Schaerbeek, which is a borough near the north station (and apparently the red light district). It is known for being extremely dodgy and full of crime. I would definitely never walk outside if I were a female.... This afternoon we totally saw a couple getting their stuff stolen from their car while they were helping out some guy who had a flat (he was probably an accomplice). Also, this morning, socarefully saw guys breaking the windows of a car.

Other fun story: While I was in the metro a few hours ago making a phone call, I noticed this guy just staring at me and my pockets through the phone cabin's window. I just knew he wanted to try pickpocketing me... it was too obvious. So I just stared him back and he walked away. The metro here definitely is unsafe. :P

Speaking of frites... I only really had them in a Belgian fast food place. They were OK. However, I think I'd rather put all my efforts on waffles. :P
