How does one "do" steampunk when one is not the most creative of people?  I mean, I dig steampunk aesthetic big time, but as far as making my own stuff?  I'm a tard

It makes me feel sad and pathetic, you know?

I think you just sort of jump in and give stuff a try. My initial forays into garb making were truly atrocious but I learned something from each attempt. What are you thinking of making?

That's part of the problem! I don't know what I want to build, other than I know I want to build a Tesla coil and a "Jacob's ladder" in the garage...

I dunno, since Prof. Blake Castleton is the "wacky professor/slightly mad scientist" of the crew, I don't know where I should start. In a nutshell, I'm paralyzed by too many options. Got any suggestions? (I suppose I could always start with a pair of goggles, I guess. But, that's so passe'...)

Side-note, we might be going 'punk to WindyCon this year. I'm honestly excited about the possibility.

Nah, I figured it was you. Maybe gloves or gaunlets? I have this semi-formed idea of starting with a set of plain leather gloves, adding a cuff and then decorating with flat metal washers or rivets. (Okay, so extremely semi-formed....)

Right there with ya. Especially now that I actually have an opportunity to maybe do a steampunk outfit for SDCC. I'm overwhelmed.

BTW, will you be attending??

So, SDCC is not in the cards for me. I have a lot of stuff already planned out for the year and that didn't make the cut. But, since we're so close to Chicago, I'm probably going to make WindyCon this year. It's a steampunk theme, with Phil and Kaja Foglio (of Girl Genius fame) as the GoHs.
